THIS JEWELRY’S STORY
Pan American World Airways Challenge
The Pan-Am company was looking for a watch that could display multiple time zones simultaneously. It was important to have quality watches for pilots. Rolex created the GMT Master II as a solution in 1954, and it was produced in 1959.
Pan-Am pilots were not the only people wearing these watches. Eventually NASA, military pilots, and business travelers were using this watch. There have been several advancements on the watch. In 1989, the 16710 model replaced the 16760 featuring a much slimmer case with a similar caliber movement. Dates of production were between 1989 and 2007. This model was introduced with three bezel options: The red and black Coke, blue and red Pepsi, and the solid black bezel. The late Z-series model use the caliber 3186 instead of the 3185.
The Rolex GMT Master II Pepsi continues to be one of the most popular watches with pilots, collectors and everyday casual wearers.
