THIS JEWELRY’S STORY
Skyscraper Pinky Ring
This garnet is very special. ANZA Gems follows the journey of their gemstones from mine to market, making certain that fair trade, labor practices and safety regulations are adhered to at every step of the way. ANZA is a woman owned company and with every sale a portion is donated back to the village from which it came, supporting women miners and promoting local cutting efforts and education. This garnet was brought back from Mahenge in Africa to the US as a rough. I ordered my particular dimensions and stone shape and it was faceted to perfection by Master Cutter Beth Stier in the Midwest. I wanted to do something extra special with this gem to honor it's journey. Making a statement ring for a pinky finger- and setting it up really high seemed like the unconventional thing to do!
I chose 14K rose gold, the pinkest hue to accentuate its unique and changing mauve color- in some lighting it flashes to a taupe! Deciding to set it at an angle makes it even more architectural. The wide 'cigar band' styling with flattened top again adds more interest and became the perfect platform for this diamond studded 'high rise' to emerge.
This is a very special addition to our Metropolis story. I encourage women to 'Acknowledge Their Superpowers' and I think this particular style speaks to mine. I am a builder, I am happiest creating something new and something different and bringing it to life with the skilled craftsman and latest technology I am privy to work with. Growing up in NYC, industrial design informs me, we are surrounded. I fancy my statement rings to be small architecture- this one certainly is. The skyscraper is a symbol of what humans can accomplish. I feel powerful wearing this tiny building on my pinky finger, and it motivates me to climb to greater heights.
